I was beached at a popular boaters rendezvous last weekend and I witnessed something extremely irritating. This EDIT comes flying into the beach doing at least 15 if not 20mph on a sea-doo 4 person jetboat. He does this between me, and another boat 40feet next to me. Mind you this is a popular beaching spot so there are a lot of boats and when you are coming in that fast there's no way you can see the shoreline for kids swimming.

So he cuts the engine as if to coast into the beach...problem is...I was beached and he cut it right before he got to my boat with his speed he beached it alright. He just about took out 3 kids building a sand castle on the beach too.

Ohh my god this guy made me furious..along with a buddy who was with me at the time. My buddy was going to let his fists do the talking he was soo mad and this is a guy who doesn't always make the best decisions himself.

He jumped out of his boat and walked away for about 40min. When he returned to leave this front-row parking spot there were 5 guys trying to get this thing floating. I can't believe anyone helped this moron after the way he was driving.

Oh and his hull was disgusting...he obviously doesn't have a clue about how to operate a boat. EDIT

Unfortunately, it's going to take someone getting hurt before he realizes that he's putting people in danger. Just hope it's him and not someone innocent.

Where I boat the beach zone ( 100' or so ) is a No Wake zone whether posted or not. Of course nothing's illeagal when there's no cop around, but my state has a solution for that too. If three independant reports come in regarding the same boat misbehaving it's an automatic ticket to the boat owner regardless if they were the operator.

Sort of works like a stiff parking ticket, it don't matter who was driving - let the owner deal with who they lend their car (boat) to. There's also a points system so it doesn't become a "rich enough to pay for the privledge" thing. Rack up enough points and loose your registration for the year *and* future years cost you more.

He jumped out of his boat and walked away for about 40min.
And his gas cap was not the locking sort. Some little kid might think it needed filling with a little water - you know how kids like to emmulate adult behavior - fill'er up

Did anyone have a calm conversation with him about it? It seems impossible, but there are people walking this earth who are really that clueless. Just a thought.

interesting... I could see that getting abused. One guy and his two buddies can give a ticket to anyone they please, for any reason. Wonder if the accused protests, do the people who accused have to show up in court to testify? I would hope so!

Not to mention its been shot down for motor vehicles that you can't give a speeding ticket to the vehicle, you NEED to some way to witness the driver.

I was thinking the same thing. Any references to the codes or ordnances that cover it, saildan?

Good thing Iboat posters don't have that power, I wouldn't be able to afford a boat based on the PM's I get ......

I will assume he realized his mistake the exact moment he tried to get his boat floating and realized he needed 4 more people to unbeach the boat. I didn't stick around to watch but when I drove by 5minutes later they were all still there.

How stupid is White Bear on the weekends?
I have tried and enjoyed Bald Eagle on Fridays. Today went to Big Marine early and that was a little choppy but still real enjoyable. Just to afraid to try White Bear on a weekend.

I witnessed a PWC running close to shore on a lake in the Adirondacs.Kids were swimming in the area and he was running at his friends in the water making last minute turns to spray water on them.
One intersting thing we saw after as we walked in the shallows was half a dozen frogs with all their skin pulled off and hangin on their feet. Not a pretty sight!Guess it's hard on them to pass through a jet pump.
Almost every dumb boating thing I've seen involves a PWC.

I think PWC events of all kinds are memorable because they usually occur too close to shore.

I mostly go to Bald Eagle. I haven't been to Big Marine but I want to check it out. Maybe I will do that this week sometime. I like bringing my guests to that little sand beach on White Bear...that's really the only reason I go there.

The launch is getting pretty bad. There is a big whole in the middle of the 2 launch lanes where the concrete ends. Makes for fun boat retrieval.

Re: Jetboat shenanigans

Just a guess, but when the OP said I think he was talking about. ummmmm.... jet boats. ;)

had nothing to do with it being a jet boat - had to do with the boat operator.

Re: Jetboat shenanigans

The operator was operating a jetboat. So it did have something to do with the jetboat, but the post did highlight the actual operator and the fury this guy instilled in me being such a moron. Then watching him suffer his consequences with a large audience.

Re: Jetboat shenanigans

I think the jet boaters, including jet skis, like to show off their shallow-water amanuevers "because they can" to try to outshine the prop boats. Doesn't work, but that's what they're doing.

I had an airboat show off once AT me--we were up in a salt marsh, me in a prop boat with barely enough water to float, and he slowly turns around until his fan was in my direction, and gunned it, covering me and my boat with marsh grass and peppering me with periwinkles like gravel! Don't know what I did to make him so mad....

I think prop boats have secret envy of all other boats! I have three jet powered craft, as well as a couple prop powered boats. And no, I don't show off. (I do have to admit it is fun to watch a prop boat follow me across a sandbar though!) (current boats in the flotilla, 2 jet boats, 2 pwc's, 1 pontoon, and 1 old trihull)

The guy was either an idiot or a completely newbie with zero experience. The type of propulsion made absolutely no difference, he would still be an idiot with a row boat!
