This was about 5 years ago or so. Some friends and I were at the Kowliga bridge public ramp putting in our boat. This is a usually busy ramp due to the year round water. It's Saturday morning and its packed. Two launching lanes. This guy 50+ and his toy (new girlfriend) who was not a minute older than 22 are attempting to launch a newer seadoo. This guy backed and corrected for 5-10 min before even hitting the water. Everyone was getting steamed. One of the onlookers standing near us decided to step in and recruited volunteers. The onlooker unhooked the trailer from the truck and we backed it in by hand then re-attached it to his truck, it took all of 5 min. Needless to say his new "toy" was not too impressed with this guy's lack of general man-knowledge. The kicker is on our way back to the ramp we see him being towed, he had ran out of gas about 200 yds from the ramp and someone was pulling him in! Now I am not a genius and have dragged my skeg up a few ramps on the old boat but come on! How do these people succeed in life with such poor decision making!

It could be worse. You could live in area where they rent them to tourist.

Most all of them have reserve tanks, and this gives you several miles of fuel, to get to a gas dock. Maybe he was just "green" to the entire boating thing??

my friends use to have a baja they would take across lake michigan from michigan to milwalkie for ribs. i would love to try this but not sure how my fuel tank and wallet would like a few hour drive. i keep the tank above half that way i know i wont run out! i guess 1 rule of thumb never go out unless you have at least 25-30 gallons of gas or a full tank and back up.

Never leave out with anything less than a full tank... We always refill the boat on the trip back home so we don't have to worry about how much fuel we've got on-board when we head out the next time.
