Any one else in here tow 19ft cuddy with a jeep. Says its rated for 2000lbs the boats weight is 2187. Only going about 10 miles on city streets top speed maybe 35. I know its a bit over recommended weight but would rather pull boat out with 4x4 then my 2wd f-150 real mossy ramps in WA

Re: jeep wrangler tow vehicle

Seen a guy tow with a wrangler... really short wheelbase that could lead to problems. i would not really recommend going over tow rating but I can see why you would want to pull the boat out with 4x4. Hmmm got yourself in a bind and are you sure of your boat weight? is that with gear and all, cause most people underestimate their boats. But to answer you question I have seen wranglers towing boats right around the 2000-pound area but I myself never have. I know I haven't really answered anything here but quick question for you does your wrangler have the 4 or 6 cycl?

Later

Kevin

Really bad idea, Sacnvr. I really doubt that your rig, ready to launch, weighs under 2,500lb.

Even at 35mph, an emergency stop will probably jackknife you and do massive damage. If anybody gets hurt you are liable for willful negligence and your insurance would probably refuse to pay on the basis of that.

You can reduce the hazard by putting brakes on the trailer, but I suggest that you stick 400 or 500lb of ballast in the bed of your F150 and use that to tow your boat.

Good luck. :)

i usually disagree with most on these topics. if you truly tow short distances at slow speeds, i think you are fine. take it easy and you should be fine.

I'll go along with mattttt25 on this one. ONLY for short local trips. AND, if you have or put brakes on the trailer. Your worst challenge is somebody stopping short in front of you. The Wrangler will be pushed forward by the trailer's momentum. Trailer brakes would solve that.

Re: jeep wrangler tow vehicle

My guess is that the 2200lbs is dry weight. Add 250lbs for the trailer and 3-400lbs for gear and you are alot closer to 3K than 2.

Will the Jeep pull it? Yep. Can it stop it in an emergency, nope. Does it have an appropriate wheelbase? nope.

Take this rig to a truck stop and weigh it. For 8 bucks you can find out what it really weighs. I recommend this for anyone who pulls a trailer.

If you need an alternative, you can go with brakes on the trailer. Currently not a good plan.

I would stick with the F-150. If your rear tires have tread, that truck has enough weight and enought power to slowly pull your rig out with no problems. Don't risk a lawsuit by exceeding the limit on your Jeep.

Sacnvr, It doesn't matter if it's 10 miles or 100 miles to the ramp, using the Wrangler is unsafe. Why risk it when you have a F-150 which will do the job fine.
