JC Penny Outboard??????????

Has anyone ever heard of this motor? I have a 3hp air-cooled JC Penny. Very light little motor. It is totally self-contained with the gas tank sitting on top of the flywheel. The only gear it has is go(turn the motor 180 degrees for reverse).

The reason I'm asking is that I need some parts. I've called some local boat dealers and mechanics and they have never heard of such. One man told me that this was a disposable motor. But I can't see throwing it away, just because it needs a few carb. parts. If anyone has ever heard of this motor or knows where I can find some parts please let me know.

P.S. All I need is the carb bowl, float, needle, etc. I can't find any numbers or manufacturers name on the carb.

SM, www.aomci.org is the antique outboard club. Click on " Ask a Member". You will need the model number for help. Penny's bought engines from lots of different manuf back when. Most of their engines came from OMC under the name of SeaKing and Bucaneer, but off hand I don't remember any air cooled engines from OMC or Merc. Those guys will know. Dunk

Thanks Dunk, I posted in the forum, but have not yet received a reply. From the looks of the site they should know everything I'm looking for.

I bought a 7.5 JC Penney air-cooled this year and got it running well. The motor was a tec-umseh and the lower unit was an eska. Parts for the lower unit are from Certified Parts 1-800-356-0777. The motor and carb parts can be gotten through your local lawnmower dealer that handles tec motors.

Thanks kalloway. That is exactly the info. I was looking for. One question: How do I find out what year the motor is. I know it has something to do with the serial #, but I always get it confused.

Thank you

I'm not sure how to tell, but Certified Parts was able to send me an owner's manual. They probably know.
