jasper/merc 350 are they the same???

guys i helping my friend on this one.<br /><br />hejust got a jasper small block v8 engine block, he wants to take all the parts from his broken 350 chevy and put them on the jasper, the jasper has the manifold with the risers at the rear of the manifold.<br /><br />the chevy has center risers/manifold<br /><br />will those match up.<br /><br />also starter , altinator, and finally this jasper use points the chevy use electronic will the distributor from the chevy fall right in????<br /><br />this is the serial number from the jasper #381882 what year is this?? the chevy is a 1983 engine<br /><br />thanks for all the input on this

Be careful if the "Chevy" is from a Chevrolet and not from a MErc, Volvo, OMC or other marine application. Not all parts are the same.

Sounds to me like they didn't get the right Jasper. Changing from center rise to log style manifold would be a challenge and not as good.<br /><br />-Nate

ok guys thanks, ok i know i did not state info straight.<br /><br />here goes my friend has a searay with a merc 350 1983 , the block is crack and no good, he bought tiera 255 with a jasper 350 block, this jasper came with that ugly log stile manifold, we took them off no sighn of rust or scale both risers and manifold.<br /><br />we took the riser/manifold from the merc 350, put them on the jasper, it fit perfect, but we have to get a pair of longer elbos from the risers to the exhaust horn. friend ran out of money so we put back the old logstile for now. the boat did sumerg a litrtle but the guy say no water was in the engine so we pull the starter got it rebuilt , pull the plugs no sighn of water, put mystry oil in the plug hole let it sit over night today try turn the engine by hand it turn with no problem put it back together with new plugs. fire right up.<br /><br /><br />sorry for the long story lol<br /><br /><br />you see i learn so much from this site that when i do all these thing guys in my marinea thinks i am a real mec.<br /><br />thanks i will keep you guys posted

BOLO... A Small Block Chevy engine is a SBC no matter who's name is on it, GM built them all. There are some slight differences between early 80-ish and late model.<br /><br />Message for Vatter... <br /><br />FYI Bro... My OMC Factory manual says to consult your local Chevy parts dealer for engine internal parts.

Thanks KG, by the way, got to go boating all day Sunday!! The boat is running pretty good. A pretty big hesitation if I go to WOT from a standing start. I think I have to readjust the QJet rear choke plate spring hold off. I think I messed with it trying to get the bog out and now that I got the new cam etc it is opening too soon. Thanks for the update!!
