I am getting ready to buy a '91 Javelin 389sc w/150 Johnson. The guy that owns the boat says the boat ran 72 mph when It was new and thats with no jackplate. But now the boat only runs 60 because he replaced the 3 blade prop with a 4blade and the carb needs to be cleaned.I just wanted to know if it is worth the money for a jackplate? And what size should I get?

Re: Jackplates?

thats really up to you I would think that a jackplat wouldn't be worth it if it is running good right now. first thing I would do is have that motor serviced and cleaned(tune up, ect.) and clean and wax the bottom of the boat! if it ran 72 without a jack plate once then it sould run that again (all thing being =).

If you want to fine tune it after that then yes you will need the jack plate. A jack plate can run any where from $100-up. If it was me and everything else is power on the boat and I felt I needed one I would spend the money and get a power jackplate. easier to adjust on the water to try different setup's but becareful not to jack to high as you WILL burn the motor up!!

Re: Jackplates?

i've done allot of research on javes and played allot with mine don't wax the pad if anything sand it lightly javes like to run with the motor a little lower then most bass boats measure you pad with the boat level then the motor your prop shaft should be about 3.5 inc lower measure prop shaft in the middle if you want allot of info on setting a javelin up email me at jand.a@frontiernet.net and i'll send it to you and i doubt he had a gps to ck actual speed in 91
