I have a 1552 alweld semi-v with a 50 Tohatsu TLDI. I am having porpoising issues and less than desired top end performance. i have tried several props and have another on order. I have aquired a used 5" set back jack plate and am wondering if it could improve my performance and possibly porpoising issues? Any advice as to if I should try the jack plate or not? Thanks

Can't think of any reason not to try it.

+1 on the jack plate. Porpoising issues are often an issue of having too much weight on the rear end. A 50 hp engine should be great for that hull, however.

Sometimes porpoising and/or cavitation issues can be solved by moving the engine just an inch or two. The jack plate should make it ride like a longer boat, and plates are really not expensive items.

Give it a shot.

Nice rig by the way. I love john boats that size. So versatile and tough.

Thanks. I really like it just want to solve this porpoising issue and get the right prop. I was up your way a few months back in Jasper, AR. the wife and I rented an Ozark Cabin for a much needed get away.

Beautiful country. I spent many childhood years up there. I live in the central part of the state now, but I'm only a couple hours away. I have a 14' raft that I use to float camp on the Buffalo River when I get a chance.
