I need to scrape the bottom of my toons. What would be the safest and best way to jack up one side at a time about 6-8 inches.

I jacked mine from the deck cross members using a 4 x 4 x 12 post under the deck and the same on the trailer, i happened to have some around

How does this sound. Lower the trailer tongue, put jack stand under the rear of the toon, in the center, with a 2x4 cushion. Then raise the tongue, lowering the trailer from the rear of the toon. Do the same method for of the front of the toon, suspending the whole toon off the trailer. Scrape that toon, lower it back on the trailer and repeat process for the other toon.

What about renting a scissor trailer that doesn't go under the logs?

Any friends have a pontoon and have one? If not you can buy one fairly cheap off craigslist where I am located...if this is something you frequently do it might be worthwhile. Have you called any marina's or boat sales lots...a lot of boat lots use the scissor style to move pontoons around the lot.

This is what I have used. http://www.harborfreight.com/42-inch-3-1-2-half-ton-farm-jack-6530.html

Put some boards on the ground under the jack to give it enough height. Put a 2 x 4 laying flat up under the side deck edge for the jack arm to lift against. Locate the jack on the side about where the console is. Jack the side of the boat up until you can put some short 2 x 4's across the bunks and lower the pontoons down on the 2 x 4's. Locate the short 2 x 4 pieces under the toon welds where the bulheads are located. This jack works well but you have to be careful with it.

I have a couple of those farm jacks and they can be very dangerous. Load can shift easily and if the handle gets away from you while jacking something up or down it can really whack you. Keep your head back at all times.

I looked at them and decided not to go that route. I would still have to block under the toon for peace of mind. Looks like I will go the route I described in post # 3. Thanks to everyone for all the replies.

My toons have a spine on the bottom that runs the entire length of the toons. I only need two blocks on each toon the went under the spine and over the bunks which left the entire toon exposed for cleaning.

That is exactly how mine are. There is a space between the 2 bunks that I can place a jack stand under the rear and front after I raise the toon. If it ever stops friggin raining I will get to it.

Make a wide saw horse with some extra bracing and lower the toung jack all the way then slide the saw horse under the back now raise the toung jack all the way and pull the trailer forward and either leave it just under the front of the logs to support them or build a second saw horse and remove the trailer completely. This is how I did mine and it worked great. You will have full unrestricted access to the bottom of the logs. And its very stable.

What I ended up doing was getting 2 jack posts from Lowes with upper and lower 4" x4" plates. Attached a 2x6 to the bottom plate and a 2x4 to the top plate. Lowered the tongue, adjusted the jack plate nice and snug under the rear toon. Riased the tongue and put another jack post under the front of the toon. Ended up with about 8" space to scrape the toons clean and then put bunk slicks on. Lowered that toon and did the same to the other toon. Leaving one toon on the trailer each time made it very stable with no way for it to move.

Already got her wet 2 weeks ago, but that was before cleaning the toons, etc. If it stops raining on weekends I will get her wet again and see how the bunk slicks work.
