Jack plates???

Hi all
I am restoring an antique boat that used to have 55 hp 15" shaft motor. to stay in the 50 to 60 hp range, i only find 20" shafts. as this is an old and rare boat there is no hull markings about anything... so long story. but here is the questions, 1. does anyone have experience with jack plates? and 2.is there any kind formula for additional stress on the transom when a jack plate is used?

I can't answer your question, but I have other comments. If your are concerned about being period correct, a jack plate would not do it. If you want to show and have the boat judged it would also be a problem.

Mercury makes a 40 HP short shaft 4-stroke outboard. That's the largest for them. Tohatsu makes SS 50 and 60, and that should be a good option. Of you are looking for used, you could be looking a long time.

HI Jim, thanks for the help. I have found some options in 40 hp 15" range. Period correct or wining shows is not my goal is to get her looking and moving like she used to.
