jack plate vs set back

I have a G3 185FS with a 150 Yamaha. Would like to get more bow lift. Played around with lots of props this past summer. Finally tried some temporary wedges and saw a little improvement. Searched this forum and read a lot about jack plates and performance. I believe if I could move my engine back a few inches and change center of gravity it would help. They make straight set back plates and then there are jack plates. They seem to be about the same money for the non-hydraulic models. Would there be any advantage for me in the jack plate as all I really want to do is go straight back? Where would I start, 4 inch? Any help to get me going would be much appreciated.

Re: jack plate vs set back

If you're going to set the F150 back might as well have some vertical adjustment. Easier to dial in after. I vote manual jack plate.

I would tend to be conservative in the set back. Make sure you have enough
length in the control and steering hoses etc.

Like to hear how this turns out.
