I have a 2002 180 fourwinns with a 2002 150 hp johnson on it. When I whent to a ss prop I stayed with the same pitch as the aliminum so I think my rpms dropped to around 5000. The prop was about 500$ so I would rather get a jack plate to get a little more rpm's out of her. I have never had a jack plate. Will this help raise rpm and top speed. I would want a manual one. Are these bolt on or is drilling needed.

thanks:D

5000 is 800-1000 low of where you need to be with that engine.
That's a fairly heavy boat and I'm not sure a jackplate will fix anything. You might gain 350-400RPM with the same prop, but that's not enough for the 150.

Staying with the same pitch is one thing but what design did you get for $500? I'm not so sure either that a jackplate alone will get you the 1000 rpm you need but it should help unless something else is going on.

What prop did you have before? What do you have now? What were / are the numbers?

As for the plate, if you get a good plate like a Bob's it will bolt up in the existing holes.

Re: jack plate on a fourwinns

I always was surprissed how fast this boat was for how heavy it is.:D The rpms might have just ben over 5000 can't remember exactly since it was last summer. The specs for the 150 looper are 4500 to 5500rpm with it reaching the top of it's power band around 5000rpm. Why would I want to raise it up to 6000. I thought the jack plate would bring it up lust a little to get it right were I want it.
I got a Stiletto ss prop with a pitch of 19 the same as the aluminum one that came off. I don't know why I thought I paided 500 for it it was 300$.;)

these are the specs. 3blade 14.25" 19

I'm not aware of RPM specs being 4500-5500 on that 60 Deg looper.
I'll step aside and let Dhadley answer your questions....he'll know for sure.
I DO know on Texoma (600ft) on that same style/size boat with the 150, we were lucky to get 5500-5600 with a 17P with engine in the third hole-no plate.

Don't go anywhere Kenny.......stay tuned....

The rev limiter for that motor is at either 6200 or 6700. It won't hurt a thing to run it right up to the limiter. For the longest life we shoot for 6000 with a normal load.

Re: jack plate on a fourwinns

I didn't know they put a rev limiter on the ignition on the 150. but before i do any thing i'll wait for the first run of the year and push it to the max to see what the top rpm is. Then i'll go on from there. So how hard is it to put a jack plate on if I do that later over the summer.:D
