J.B.
I have been an avid fisherman and hunter for 18 years. My cousin introduced me to muskie fishing early this spring and I'm hooked. Went out and bought '94 481vs Ranger to chase them with. We live about 40 miles from Cave Run lake here in Ky. This lake is supposed to one of the best. The PMTT has tournaments here. Well to make a long story short, we were discussing a muskie fishing trip to LOTW this fall (probably September). I read your post about just getting back from LOTW. What would be some of your suggestions on what part of lake to fish and where to stay, etc. I have really learned alot from this board and all the knowledgable people (yourself included)that make it a success. Thanks for any info you can give.

Good morning;
A good site to vist is 'lakeofthewoodsmn.com'
Provides a good amount of info for lodging, services and fishing reports for areas of LOTW in MN including the MW angle.(my personal favorite adventure).
Ice fishing for walleye and sauger is fantastic also and fishing packages are reasonable. Check it out.

We took a trip to Iron Mountain 2 weeks ago. Fished Michigamme, Witch lake, Menonimee river, Paint river, and Lake Mary. Caught a lot of Pike (1 - 36" & 39") & (2) Muskie (32" & 37"). Raised a lot of nice ones on Lake Mary. Thanks for the info on LOTW

Hi, JDenton. I think that the NW angle is the best location to drive to and use your own boat.

We stay at Angle Outpost, www.fishandgame.com/angleoutpost,
800-441-5014. Dave and Jessica Fandrich are wonderful hosts. Dave is a former Muskie Pro.

Places to fish? HA! There are over 11,000 islands and 65,000 miles of shoreline. You could fish it for a year (every day) and not put a lure within 50 yards of anyplace you had it before.

Get yourself a good, handheld GPS and get good using it. Also get the HotSpots map for NW LOTW.

Spend the bux on a good guide for the first day or two. Get his okay ahead of time to Waypoint a few good spots. Doug Johnson and Dave Pearson both guide in the area and are famous muskie specialists. We use Scott Edman because we are mixed-bag-but-mostly muskie fishermen and Scott can put us on walleyes for dinner or huge smallies for spectacular action to break the cast-retrieve-cast-retrieve tedium. Scott and brother Allen book out of Angle Outpost or www.muskiemuskie.com.

Tell Jessie that JB sent you.

Red sky at night. . . .
JB

Thanks Esox & J.B. I appreciate you all taking the time to give me this info. If you are ever traveling through my neck of the woods (north central KY), let me know I'll put you on some good game and fish. I don't know what it is about sportsmen always wanting to travel to seeing new woods or lakes but I've got it bad. (or is this good?)I know my wife's answer though!
