This last week my family spent time opposite a well known boat ramp. We used it ourselves but were entertained by the antics of people throughout the week. We saw 4x4's submerged up to the front windows, cars stuck on an incomming tide, boats that wouldn't leave the trailer, boats that wouldn't come back up on the trailer, a jet boat that wouldn't stop when the guy killed it, people arguing over the ramp space, people taking far too much time over there launching and retrieving.
To put it bluntly I have never sat for upwards of 3 hours before just watching a boat ramp. If I'd had a video camera I reckon I'd have had a winner of a show to display. Suppose somebody did that they'd need permission from those folk they filmed eh! Can't see that happening.
By the way, no I'm not without incident myself, I just was amazed at the spectacle that went with our accomodation.
Ross

Ross,

Boat ramps are by far the cheapest entertainment there is.

The USCG classes have a few tapes of similiar events, some are even tragic, and some are funny, but it at least it makes one think of how boating could be if you don't keep you'r senses and follow basic rules.

I have always stated that a boat ramp in the summer time is the cheepest fun you can have. It takes all kinds to make this world go around.......and around.........

Ross, I am glad to see this problem with boat ramps is spread out evenly on this planet....I thought most of the 'launch handicapped' were stuck around here!

Re: I've seen it all now

I'm not finished yet, I've just seen a newie -
Bloke backs trailer down the beach, can't float boat off yet - only a 14 foot boat - Uncouples the trailer from the car and pushes the trailer further down beach by hand till it becomes stuck fast in mud.
Meanwhile he can't get car back up beach, stuck. This chap has the hold downs still on the boat and whilst helpers assist with a tow to the car the tide comes up just enough to cover the boat and trailer. It's a bloody shame to see a complete unit go under like that. Worst was that the only sign to others of any danger was the tip of the aerial showing above the water. Can only guess he retrieved boat etc after low tide........
Ross
