I've been cheated! volvo sterndrive

On my old mercruiser there was an Anode that also served as a trim tab. The new volvo doesn't have one. Does anyone know why?<br /><br />Also, I have heard a malicious rumor that volvo's should not be run on earmuff's. Can anyone clarify?

I am assuming you have a "SX" drive... If not. let us know what drive you have.<br /><br />Most have power steering, therefore no need of the tab. Even so, some did have a tab.<br /><br />As for anodes, it has anodes in other places. Your old Mercruiser probably didn't have one attached to the bearing carrier.<br /><br />I have never heard you cannot run a Volvo on flush muffs... Maybe someone else knows what that's about.

I run all kinds of Volvo's on muffs all the time with no problems what so ever.<br />Of course the X-DP drive does't have a way to put muffs on it. So without knowing what kind of drive/engine combo you have, it's hard to say.

Maybe that had something to do with the hole on the front of the older 270/280 SP drives...<br /><br />You had to plug that, but otherwise fine to run on muffs... Again, like Don, run (dozens,weekly) on muffs with zero issues...(except in the winter, when I go fishin')

only issues I ever saw running a volvo on the muffs is if its a jackshaft version that uses a thru-hull pickup. there is a funny story behind that one. but on the sx flush muffs are fine unless your drawing water from a thru-hull. your SX has anodes other places as well. look for the hidden one on the transom shield.

I have same motor and drive and have no issues running on muffs.

I ran my Volvo 5.7L engine with SX outdrive on muffs without any problems for 5 years. No trim tab anode but 1 anode on the transom shield and 1 anode on the cavitation plate. No corrosion problems either.

Burp, Unless it's been removed, you have one fastened to the bearing carrier also. To check it, look behind the prop thrust washer.

My SX has a big ugly anode at the front of the gearcase above the anti-ventilation plate.

How many anodes are on an SX Volvo?<br />I know about the front of the drive and the transom shield what others are there? <br /><br />I had alot of corrosion on my new 2005 SX with a stainless prop,I was wondering if there are any more anodes available. It seems to be way under protected. I was thinking of changing over to magnesium,I am in fresh water.<br />Boat is at dealer now I hope Volvo will fix it without me paying for it.
