At the end of last summer I was out on Galveston bay and the throttle/shifter control handle fell apart. This is a single lever setup that controls both throttle and shifting. The pins in the control housing containing the rotors jammed and snapped causing the entire mechanism to fail.

At the moment, it is in the driveway with the outdrive stuck in reverse. I would like to replace the entire set-up including cables. I cannot find an original style control handle and housing. So I found something similar on ebay. Can anyone please tell me if this is worth buying or will I be buying something that will not work with my setup.

Pictures below:

What I have currently that failed:

And what I may buy on Ebay to replace with:

I did check and it does control both throttle and shifting. The button at the bottom allows it to go into neutral just like the original. But how will I integrate the wiring harness from the original box? Do I have to find an original control box? I want to completely avoid having to re-wire anything. Digging in to the wiring on those old boats is never fun and will most likely lead to breaking things.

Also, I have look all over this site for some type of instruction on removing and replacing the cables at the transom on a pre-alpha but cannot find what I am looking for.

Any help with the first question and instruction on replacing cables at the transom is greatly appreciated!

Ayuh,... No way in 'ell what I'm seeing in that picture is capable of doin' Both throttle, 'n shiftin'....
It's lackin' awhole buncha parts, that wouldn't fit in that little bitty bag...

The only wiring you need is a neutral safety switch...

Most aftermarket controllers are adaptable to about any of the outdrives...

Swappin' the cables at the stern are pretty simple, Just Unhook, 'n reinstall...

I know what you mean GLENN....so in theory, I can go buy just about any side mounting single lever that has the control box for throttle and shift? Just as long as it will work with the cables?

Please see link below....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DUAL...5206505QQptZBoatQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQ5fGear

Would this work? If the cables do attach to it could I go from a single lever dual function to a dual lever control?? This one does not have the nuetral safety switch like the original does. Is it absolutely necessary to have this cable? If not, how can I bypass it?

Thanks
