Volkswagen today announced plans to cut 20,000 staff at it's Passenger Car Business: job cuts. <br /><br />"In the next three years up to 20,000 direct and indirect employees within the Volkswagen Passenger Car brand could be affected by this restructuring programme," the company said. <br /><br />Things look grim on both sides of the Atlantic and if there was one company I wouldn't have expected to be cutting jobs it would have been VW.

The Korean car makers are making good inroads into the worldwide car market by offering good cars at cheap prices. You dont hear about them making layoffs. Nissan and Mitsubishi had problems a couple of years ago too.<br /><br />Worldwide I would say Honda and Toyota have been the only major car companies that havent struggled.<br /><br />Ken

Thats because they make the kind of cars that the majority of people want to buy.<br />I happen to find their cars rather boring and bland.

dolloper is dead on. We need to go back to slave labor or least not letting American labor make more than the absolute minimum to sustain life. All that American way of life was pure c..p anyway. American labor will be the death of us all.

[/QB][/quote]<br />________________________________________________________________________________<br /><br /><br />There are a few exceptions, Nissan have not done too badly with their newer body styles. <br />I acquired an Infinity G35 coupe just over a year ago, it is an exciting little car to drive, much more so than the new mustangs believe it or not, having not driven any of the cobras, therefore i cannot comment on those.

That is interesting considering they actually exceeded their financial target last year.... it just does not go hand in hand with cutbacks.<br /><br />Hey Darth Nissan is French owned but they do make a nice car.

I don't think a guy ought to be paid $26 an hour to stand there and tighten hex nuts all day, but I also don't think that his wage should be driven down to $9 either.<br /><br />In the case of Red China, I say we should simply disallow the dumping of their goods on our shores. As for products from the freer nations, we just have to find ways to be more competitive or move on to other enterprises. I surely don't want to see the further erosion of our industrial capacity, though. I think we have to sustain it, or we are going to be finished. Red China will kick our a$$e$ like we did it to Germany and Japan in WWII.

I agree with that 100%. They make good reliable cars that are boring and that is what MOST people want to buy.<br /><br /><br />Incidentally, I just saw a little blurb on CNN stating that Honda and Toyota were handing our bonus checks to employees.<br /><br />Also, I heard VW is cutting jobs cause they are not happy with the profits they are making. They want more profits. (Can I go ahead and make a post for txwinner stating they are greedy @$%#%)<br /><br />Ken
