It ran without cooling for a minute-damage?

I was given a 1990 15 hp Gamefisher/Force motor that hadn't run in 10 years or so. After rebuilding the fuel pump and carb (which were full of sediment and corrosion), it started on the second pull. I shut it down immediately, then put thelower end in a deep bucket in water deep enough to cover the water intake. I fired it up again, and waited about a minute for water to come out of the water outlet. It did not, so I shut it down. What's the likelihood that the engine was damaged by lack of cooling?

That short of time shouldn't hurt the motor but you do need to change the impeller.

Thanks, Bill. Yeah, the impeller's so old that the arms have taken a "set" to them so that they don't expand out to the wall of the pump on the wide side. Based on what I learned from the friendly peolple here, I expected to have to replace that. Also, there are some pits on the inside of the pump body, so I'll be replacing that, too. When I ran a stream of water up the water pipe (motor not running), some kind of plant matter became dislodged (or an insect nest - the motor was covered with mud dauber nests when I started this project), and a lot of water started flowing out the outlet, so at least I know that's clear now.

Hi gamefisher ,you can run the engine safely with hose attached to pick up pipe just keep it at tickover.

Thanks - it ran great today on the water (with a new impeller), so nothing catastrophic has happened.
