Issue with Speedometer Tube

I put the boat in the lake for the last time a couple weeks ago, and during one run down the open water while rpm testing to see what she would do (thinkin I need a different prop) I had a weird thing happen. The speedo wasnt working very well, kinda bounced around then quit. I started getting drips of water on my foot as I was in the cockpit area running the boat. It was coming out of the gauge panel, and freaked me out to tell you the truth. I backed it down and stopped and started looking around. I couldnt see anything when looking behind the panel, but assumed that the connection to the speedo from the pitot tube was leaking. Isnt it supposed to just be air? Or am I thinking correctly that the tube or fitting at the speedo is leaking, allowing air to escape and let the water come all the way up the tube? I winterized the boat already, but was just thinking about water in that tube or in the speedo. There is like a quick disconnect deal on the tube going to the speedo....whats in there, an o-ring? Need a little advice, and sorry about the length of this comment.....

Ayuh,... That's correct,...
Just pull the tube off the back of the gauge, 'n Blow into it...

At least in my experience, speedos tend to go bad more often than just a hole in the tube or connection failing. In other words, your leak might just be a bad connection or a hole, but its probably the speedo itself.

In a proper speedo system, you shouldn't have water in more than maybe the last couple inches of tubing. Any more and it means something is leaking.

Your leak is at the gauge where the tube connects to the speedo. It's allowing water to flow all the way up to your gauges. You really need to fix this soon since most of your controls are connected in and around the speedo since water and voltage don't mix well.

bondo-s got it......if the quick connect wont let you blow thru it......just disconnect the line form the coupler and blow....
