Hi,

I'm rebuilding a 1996 Mercruiser 305 and part of that rebuild is doing the carburetor - which is a quadrajet - and I need to find a rebuild kit for it.

After researching the topic online, I've looked in all the places where there "should" be a model number on the unit, but after looking everywhere in good lighting, I can only find the name "Quadrajet" on the main body of the carburetor and that's it, so I thought I'd ask more informed minds here for some help.

Am I missing something?

Is there a "one-rebuild-kit-fits-all" for these carburetors? From what I've read online, they've been around a long time and been through various updates over the years.

Any help is appreciated.

If you are holding the carb and looking at "Quadrajet" the serial number is to your right and is vertically stamped into the carb. No there is no one kit for the old Q-Junks, each year they did something different, why they are called Quadra junk. I use Mike at Mike's Carburetor to rebuilt mine, he can do it all http://www.carburetor-parts.com/Marine_c_29.html It may be in your best interest to replace it with an Edelbrock or Carter carb. Some Holley carbs are hit and miss any of them would be better than a Q-Junk. Also, check the well plugs for any sign of leakage, another know Q-Junk fail point, will leak the bowl dry and make for long starts as the fuel pump will have to refill the bowl before ignition happens, not to mention your gallons per hour will suck at anything over half throttle.

Well I tried to upload a picture of the well plugs and what to look for, but apprently this is a heavly moderated site. google it.
