I'm planing to add a 9.9 or 15hp Kicker motor to my Starcraft Islander 221V 4.3L I/O

I would like to hear from anyone with the same boat... How high did yo mount the bracket and what kind of bracket did you use? How much vertical travel does it have? What size engine did you mount and how long is the shaft (15" or 20")

I'm planning to mount it port side.... Is it possible to mount it above the Alpha 1 drive ? Any Ideas or suggestion would be greatly appreciated

I have attached a picture.

with the right bracket and a sailboat length shaft, you might be able to clear the trim tab... they have some nice stainless steel spring assisted brackets that keep out of the way and above the trim tab until you need it.... but for sure your trim tabs are going to be an obstacle it seems.bob

Re: Islander 221V Kicker instalation

My Islander has a 15 hp jonyrude on her with a spring assist lift bracket. The bracket was on there when purchased so I don't know the brand but it is quite heavy duty. I have the long shaft and yes you will need one also. Motor is out of water when running but just barely, when lowered in operating position it is quite low to reach from transom but nothing you can do about it. The kicker in operating position hangs just 12" below the hull at the point on the hull where the motor is mounted so that enables me to run in shallow water with the outdrive in the up position. Boat will do about 10 mph with the kicker at wot so it becomes very usefull if the 3.0 ever dies out. Use it for trolling, getting thru shallow channels when wind blows the water out and a great piece of mind as an emergency backup. When you choose a bracket, get a good heavy duty one as that thing has a lot of work to do holding that kicker. Measure the up and down height of the bracket and the length of the kicker from skag to mount to get the height it will need to be mounted, mounts have different lift heights.
Make sure you get at least a long shaft or a sailboat shaft which is even longer or the kicker will be in the water when you want to use it.
Hope all this helps.

Skag of kicker is only an inch or two below center of V in hull which allows me to run in 16" of water. Boat will do about 10 mph with the kicker at wot so it becomes very usefull if the 3.0 ever dies out. I have 21' cheiftain I have a 15hp johnson with a garelick (71091) bracket, 15" travel. Not cheap but works well. I bet you might be able to keep the trim tabs. If you are willing to spend the money and thinking about this bracket I could get you some pictures. Please don't waste my time if you really don't plan on spending the money on one of these brackets. Mine is about 5 yrs old and still works like new. I use it in salt water only about 2-4 weeks a year. My motor will push 5 mph in the ocean.
