I saw something in the bios re"plug and play disabled. Indeed after loading Win2k, it only has 16 bit color for the monitor resolution so it will only display 640x8??. I didn't want to try to load any drivers for my monitor because I will be taking it back to my Dads to hook up to all his peripherals.

It is..kind of..I have always put NO in the bios for plug and play. You need the driver for the video card. Windows update may install the driver for you, but your best bet is to get them from the card / motherboard vendor.

If you go into device manager, you'll see what hardware needs drivers.

Yes, it is, with caveats. First, the computer bus must be plug and play; second the adapter/device you're installing must be plug and play; third, the drivers for the adapter/device must have been included in the W2K distribution media at the time of the W2K production. If the adapter/device didn't exist until years after W2K was marketed, it has no way to know about it. Without all this in place, it's simply plug and pray.
