Is this prop dead?

Hi,

Recently I collected a crab pot with the duo props. I removed the outer prop and got rid of the line and noticed there is a bump on the prop - is this fixable or is it dead or do I need to send it to a shop?

Also, when I torqued up the propellor nut (manual said 70 to 80fp so I used 75 fp) on the shaft, there doesn't appear to be much thread over or any form of locking pin like my outboard used to have - is this correct?

Kind Regards,

David.

WOW! If that prop is dead you should see the prop I am speaking of in the thread right below this one! Make yours look like right off the showroom floor, lol.

I may be wrong but I think you have the prop installed backwards.

Well, I would say you could fix that prop yourself, if you knew how. But maybe you should take it to a pro. Either way, it is Very Easily repairable. Not even slightly close to dead.

I have never installed a VP DP before, but I think that there should be some thread left over. Maybe you have the thrust washers on backwards and the prop isn't down on the shaft as far as it should be?

I hope not! I just checked before and after photos - this is a photo I took to try and show the remaining shaft thread. The blades are towards the back of the prop and the before photos show the same thing.

It's apparently right, but do you have the thrust washer turned around in back of the prop which might be causing the prop to not slide on as far as it should.

That sounds familiar Silvertip!

And don't just check the outer prop, maybe you have the inner prop too far away from the outdrive case??

When I removed the prop, I only removed the outer prop so I didn't touch the retaining nut of the inner prop. This is the first time the prop has been removed since they were replaced by the previous owner's mechanic so I'm assuming when he put them on, everything was correct.
