Hi all I have been spending a bit of time trying to find my serial number on my mid 80s Classic 50.
I can't seem to find a whelsh plug, or a tag on the bracket.
I found a few numbers above the fuel pump that were stamped in , but they are un recognisable!.
I've been serching again and removed the CDI box Unit and under it was an aluminium plate, under the plate I found a 7 digit number cast into the block 863-8930. Is this my serial number or just the block part number??????

Rover.
Aussie S/Ns start with 8*, but the best method to find the year besides the number on the plate is by the Cowling markings.A mid 80's would be a brownband or even Red/Grey. Blue bands finished in 1983.
http://tinyurl.com/b25ag

Re: Is this my serial number???

Thanks Stacer 460. The pics do not display my Decals.
The decals are the same style as the Brown Band but have a small red pinstripe in between the word Mercury letter spacing. It Has various shades of Gray to black in the striping.
On the lower unit it has fancy lettering in Silver over the Gray to black with the wording Classic 50.
I believe these are rated at the prop of 45 HP.
They were made in the mid to late 80s, sort of a limited edition model.
I did see a stamp on the top of the carbys that reads 10/86. I think this is a date stamp, 10th month of 1986. So if correct then it must that the production/asembly of my motor is after that date?
Some pics here.
The 1st pic is not the actual decal, but similar in colours.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v228/Rovernaut/mercury.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v228/Rovernaut/a0_12_sb.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v228/Rovernaut/96_12_sb.jpg
