is a 2003 johnson 50 big enough for my 17.5 foot 950 pound 61 grady white?

it did great with the old 1960 75 HP

i think you will be disappointed with the 50, buy the way fantastic boat.

It surely won't push like the 75.But you will be amazed at the better mileage.With a newer motor. If you only cruise with one or 2 people you may be ok but I think you should hold out for something bigger.You don't usually here anyone say "boy I wish I had a smaller motor"The bigger motor will still run circles around the old 75.both mileage and performance.

General rule, less than 80% of max rated hp will be disappointing...that's a lotta boat for that motor...

btw, where did you get that picture of my dog? 8)

Hey, I think it will push it just fine. I had a 89 50 Jonhson on a 16 ft bowrider and it moved Nicely about 28 mph. I think the new 50 your thinkg about will do the job nicely and will be more reiable and better fuel econemy than your old 75

well after some careful thought and research I feel if i go with the 50 I will always want a bigger (v4) one, so it will be the 88 spl. be ready by mid week. 8)
