Just asking a question about this motor fuel burn rates.
I have a 1987 225hp Evinrude outboard on a 1991 Bayliner Trophy 21' Walkaround. I have recently rebuild and repower the boat with this motor. The boat had a Force 120hp on it before. I have been running the motor since rebuild and have been logging my fuel burn/purchases. I am figiuring that I am getting 1.4 mpg since the 10 hour mark after rebuild. This rate of burn is running in small, less than 1', to moderate waves, 3'. I will admit that I have been running it at 3/4 to full throttle while I have been doing this study.
I know that boat weight, wave height, sea conditions do make a difference. Just wondering if this is in the ball park for what I can expect. I do have the pitch of the prop down a bit from what it could be with some jet tunning. But what is the max I could expect in gas milage for this motor?
The reason for this question is I basically fish offshore freshwater in the the great lakes. (Lake Erie) My destination is normally 15-25 miles offshore one way. A days fishing has gone from 20 gallons with the Force to 45-50 Gallons. More than double. I under stand I am running double the HP. But I would like some other people experence running these motors for fuel consuption rates.
