45 degree sonar angle would be fine for very shallow water. However 45 degrees in deeper water would show fish many yards away from the boat (provided it was even capable of showing fish). This in my view is a tinker toy. But then it all depends on what your budget is. This locator is probably better than no locator.

Spend a little bit more and get a name brand unit for the same purpose. An Eagle Cuda is about $80 and a Humminbird Pirhana (not sure on the spelling) is about $100. Much, much better units.

Or

Go on ebay and buy a pre-owned name brand unit.

I really didn't think about looking on e-bay. And $100 is not a bad price either.

I have said Eagle in my boat and its 10 times whatever that thing is.
