guys im trying to find a engine to replace my blown merc..i have found a 1967 90 hp merc. the motor looks like very few hours on it but the engine will not turn over. the owner say the boathas been sitting around for several years. could this be a lost case or worth trying? how could i tell if thisproblem is an easy fix..

Hmmm, 38 yo motor that's been sitting idle for several years and won't turn over. I'm old and slow, but this looks like a no-brainer! :(

You won't be able to tell to much from the outside.<br /><br />38 years young isn't a problem normally. It may just need some penetrating oil put in the cylinders and left to sit for a few days. Then again, it may need a new powerhead. These things can't really be worked out without pulling the head off to inspect the condition of the bores.<br /><br />Then there's the condition of the things that you can't see unless you completely tear the motor down, rings, bearings, condition of crank surfaces etc.....<br /><br />Restoring an older motor is often a labour of love. Not one of common sense.
