Sucked a bearing and chewed up the head a bit. On a Johnrude with removeable heads I would try to find an unblemished head, but it's a little more difficult on a Merc with the head as part of the block. It isn't bad, but there are some pock-marks in the dome. Can this be bore oversized and used or is it junk?

I would suggest that it may be useable if you can remove the sharp edges from the indentations. The craters themselves will not cause a problem but the edge created, especially on the edge of the combustion chamber, will cause pre ignition and subsequent damage. I have had good luck with an air drill with a grey scotchbrite wheel in it to knock down the rough stuff, followed by a ball hone. The ball hone will get into the dome as well. If you can get it cleaned up then you can bore oversize if you need to. By default the ball hone will clean up the cyl walls while you are trying to clean up the dome. Do most of the work with the scotch brite wheel. The ball hone is a finishing tool.
Hope this helps.
