Hello, I have been a longtime troller on this site but this is my first post. I have an older ski boat (1990 Bayliner Capri 2050) that has been great to us since we bought it a few years ago but are looking at adding a pontoon mostly to have something that we can not winterize and use at the lake (Table Rock in Missouri) in the spring and fall also because my and my wife's parents are getting older and it would be much nicer for them the have something a little easier to get onto and off of. So here's the deal...I have a friend's dad who is willing to sell us his very lightly used (around 100 hours total) 2004 Sweetwater 2222 with a Honda 115 4-stroke of the same year on the back. He would like $13,500 for it with no trailer. This boat is a little nicer and pricier than we were looking but I have been on it a few times and know it would be a perfect fit for us. It is pretty much in like-new condition as it has always been covered and on a lift. It is on the same lake as us so would be an easy move. I know the owner takes good care of his stuff as he was the owner of our a Bayliner for the first 21 years of it's life before we bought it (unlike the pontoon, he sold us the Bayliner for a song!). Anyway, just wanted to see what you all thought of the value? I have checked NADA and it seems to think value is around $10,000. I appreciate any opinion as to whether this price is fair? Knowing the seller as well as I do and given the fact that he is a great guy I really don't want to haggle with him. I might make him one offer at $12,500 or so unless it seems like even that is not a good deal in which case I would probably thank him and tell him it just isn't in our ballpark. Thanks in advance for the help! Steve

I think around 11.5 would be a closer number without a trailer. But since it has very low hours, is in pristine condition, right on the same lake and you pretty much know the seller, then 12.5 might be a good deal for you. Hard to find a good used toon with those attributes for a decent price. Have you had a chance to drive it yet? If so and you are comfortable with the price, I say go for it. The Honda is a very reliable engine and Godfrey makes a great Pontoon..

Rick, Thanks for the advice. I kind of thought the same about value. Good to hear the Godfrey is a good pontoon and the 115 honda is a reliable motor. I am by no means an expert on pontoons or outboards. Thanks, Steve

Might be on the expensive side, but you know the boat, and your market area may be higher than what I'm used to. I say go for it. We love our Sweetwater/Honda!

It seems a little high, have you checked other boat prices in the area? It might be worth it if you have fewer other options but there may be others boats out there that are cheaper. Trailers are nice, but not totally necessary if you can leave it in year round. The boat and motor combo should work out great for you though.

I offered the owner $12.5k today. He was firm in what he wanted for it. Oh well...will keep looking. That is half the fun anyway! Plenty of boats around here for sale and deals will get better as winter gets closer. Thanks for the help, Steve

You did the right thing. $13.5k is too much for that boat at that age. Plenty of choices in your neck of the woods.
