I have a Kiekhaffer Mercury Model 60 6HP engine. The serial # plate is missing. It does have "Comet" stamped on the side of the block which confirms its a 6HP. It also has the numbers 835 2650 stamped on the engine block. I've searced and searched again. from the pictures I've seen it looks like a 1968. Any ideas?

Also I thought motors were either 15" 20" etc. shafts. This appesrs to measure 17" from cavitation plate to where the exhaust housing "thickens" and 18" to top of clamp bracket. Any input on that?

It does run SWEET!

Re: Is this a 1968?

If you check out oldmercs.com they have a few photos. I'd say you are right on the year but I'm not sure. On my motor the serial number was stamped on the top of the block almost under the flywheel. If it is a 68 you are looking for a number between 2284857 to 2529894.

Hope this helps. I have a 68 Merc 200 that I just got running. super pumped!

Re: Is this a 1968?

I got this motor with a 13' Boston Whaler clone I bought last year. The motor was WAY too small for the boat so I replaced it with a 35HP Johnson. I kept the Mercury because it ran so nice and sime things you just know you'll need. It will be performing kicker duty this weekend on our 26' sailboat until the lower unit for the Nissan comes in. The shaft on the Mercury is a little small for this application but the cavitation plate does go below the transom by almost an inch. Good for calm water, but might do a little air time in the rough.
