I have a 1988 evinrude 48 and it came with a morse control box. The only problem is the morse control box works the opposite way that the shift linkage in the motor works. When i shift the control into forward the boat goes in reverse and vice versa, which isn't that cool because i can't get all of my power out of the motor. I'm wondering if there is a way to fix that with out spending a whole bunch of money. Also can i change cables out of the box. I have my old mercury control and it works the same way the evinrude does so i was wondering if i could take the shift cable from that and put on the morse box. I NEED HELP!

Something does not add up here. There are thousands of Morse' controlling OMC's with no issues.

Is this rig NEW to you?

Yeah its new to me, my mercury blew up and somebody gave me this evinrude. Everything works great, motor runs real smooth. I just cant figure out these controls. When i push the shifter forward it pushes the motor end of the cable back, therefor shifting the motor into reverse and vice versa. The motor shifts like any other motor. using my hand if i push the shift lever in the motor back it goes into reverse, and the middle neutral and when i push the lever toward the front of the boat it goes into forward, but it does the opposite when using the shifter. I don't know, the only thing i can think of is maybe the controls are for the left side of a boat instead of the right. I'm not sure how to go about this. I was going to try using my mercury shift cable because i know it works the way i need it to, i just don't know if thats possible.

I'm not sure exactly what kind it is, but its got the neutral start safety thing. It has just a single lever, that you can pull out so you can throttle without being in gear and then you click the button back so you can change gears. I'll take a picture of it today when i pull it out.

Re: Is there anyway to reverse control cable.

there SHOULD be two places for your shifter pivot one will move the cable one way(push) when its put in forward the other will move the cable the oposite way (pulls)

itll be pretty obvious if you take the box out and look at it - it only be a matter of swapping the shift cable and pivot from the front mounting part of the control box to the back mounting bracket or visa versa

is this your control box?http://www.jmsonline.net/telefex-hdwe-kit-mt-3-twin-tel-308727.htm
if so i have one on my mako and ill go look to see how ive got it hooked up

I'm pretty sure there is no way to fix it. I pulled the control box out and disconnected the cable. When i push the handle forward the bracket goes back and visa versa. I think i'm going to need a omc control box for this motor.

Well i figured out the problem. The guy that gave me the motor gave me the wrong control box. I ended up just picking up some used omc controls and everything works the way it should. Thank you for all of the help.
