I recently intalled a raw washdown pump that will exclusivly be used in salt water and was wondering if there was an adaptor for a garden hose that will fit into a 3/4in. thru hull fitting outside of the boat. I checked with West Marine and they said they didn't carry it so maybe somewhere online. It would be nice to flush the saltwater out of the pump and hoses at home after a trip in the saltwater instead of backing into a lake to do so. Thanks in advance.

He is wanting to flush his washdown pump.

Just an Idea but I wouldn't think there would be a problem with putting two female ends on a piece of water hose and connecting your hose to the outlet of your washdown system. Then backwash it if you want.....Not sure about this but it seems it would work. My washdown pump lasted 5 years in the salt water. Then just change it out for $130, I would think all the piping would be plastic.

But I doubt you flush your bilge pump or livewell pump, why worry about a washdown pump?

There is no need to flush a washdown pump. The housings are made out of plastic, bronze or cupro-nickel. All three materials are pretty much immune to corrosion.

If you don't want a nasty rotten egg smell the next time you use the pump make sure you drain the pump when you pull the boat out of the water.

Another option is to do what I did. I added a three-way ball valve upstream of the through-hull. I have a length of hose attached that reaches the bottom of my bilge or it can reach into an jug of anti-freeze. I use it for Winterizing the wash down pump, but it can be used to make the washdown pump a backup bilge pump too.

Wellcraft uses a valve downstream of their washdown pump to double as a livewell pump. I almost never use my washdown though, just can't see spraying everything down with saltwater. The one exception is I will use it every now and then to wash fish blood off the deck before it dries.

I second that!

Other option is to cut a piece of good 3/4" garden hose with the female adapter on the end and shove the cut end it into the thru hull.

Obtain one of these Bath Safety Grip Handles (Harbor Freight/Wal-Mart, etc sells them) and stick it to the side of the boat below the hose hanging out the thru hull.

Then bungee the hose hanging out the thru hull to the handle, attach the garden hose to the hose in the thru hull and turn the water on and go for it.

Perfect no, functional yes.
