Is there a thermostat on my motor??

Hello I have a 1966 60hp Super Sea Horse and was wondering if there is a thermostat on this moter?? where would it be located and is it a part that is still made for this year and model??<br />Thank you<br />The sun is out and I'm gettin itchy :)

There ought to be. If you look at the back of the engine, there's two water hoses that come out of the heads and into a box. The thermostat is in that box. Take the cover off to reveal it.

Thank you, I was going to rebuild this but the guy that I buy parts from told me not to touch it unless the motor has overheated. That is not the case, I'm just doing maintanence on my motor.

Yeah, when it finally overheats you can buy some pistons and other goodies from him. Or maybe a whole new motor. Sounds like a Really Good Plan, but don't forget to bring a pair of oars. :rolleyes: <br /><br />It's not a bad idea at all to at least inspect it. If you run in salt-water, its a good idea to regularly take apart things that are regular maintanance items - like thermostats and water pumps. If you exercise the bolts, they won't freeze up on you later and cause headaches. Coat all your bolts in sealant and they'll come out much easier next time.
