Is there a proceedure for adjusting the throttle control?

I had my cables disconnected, it seems as though there is a dead zone between 1/2 throttle and full throttle and I have to go beyond 90 degrees for full throttle. Is there a proceedure for properly adjusting a Merc controller? Who knows, it may never have been right, this boat came with a 9.9 and now has a 50 with the same controller.

Without any engine info, I can give you the main point from the manual for my engine. Basically you want to hold the engine's throttle lever against the idle stop, then adjust the throttle cable barrel to fit into the barrel receptacle with a slight preload against the idle stop.
