Is there a disadvantage to 2 peice rods? I have casted off the end of one before but think it would be fine if put togethor tightly.(And not using WD-40 to get them apart)

The only 2 piece rods I have had that lasted more than a couple of years are flyrods, bassboy.

I do have to admit that transporting 7'+ one piece rods is a challenge, though.

There are some good two-piece rods out there, but most of them you find at the average store are the cheaper variety. I've casted the ends off of a lot of them and all I buy anymore are one-piece rods - except for fly rods as JB pointed out.

Re: Is there a disadvantage to 2 peice rods?

i have found that one major dissadvantage to having a two piece rod, is that is a place on the rod that is not meant to flex, so its a good spot for a lot of pressure to build up and possibly be a good spot to break... personally i dont have any 2 piece rods any more, the only two piece i have is a 9' fly rod...

i find that having a 2 piece loses a lot of the potential flexability of the rod, and also interferes with the sensitivity as well...

the only good thing to having 2 piece rods, is if you dont have a boat with lockable storage, you can easily store em...

A 1 peice rod is superior to any 2 peice except for storage space. If you are always fishing from a boat, storage is usually not an issue. I like to always keep a rod and reel in my vehicle. Most vehicles, that is hard to do with a 1 peice. Kayak fishing and walking through brush/woods, is another area where 2 peice shines.

As far as strength, the joining furel is a inherent weak spot. But, I have only broke a couple of poles in this area. They were both cheapo Walmart (Black Beauty) poles. And who hasn't casted half of their pole before? No fisherman should be deprived of that experience! d:)

While most of my new pole purchases will continue to be 1 peice, there will always be a couple of 2 peice around.

Re: Is there a disadvantage to 2 peice rods?

Up till just a few years ago I only used 2-pc rods. Now I only buy 1-piece, because 2-piece rods just aren't cool. I've broke more tips off 1-pc rods than I ever did off 2-pc. I have broke a couple 1pc graphite rods in the midsection, and one 2-pc at the ferule.

I don't really think it makes a noticeable difference...maybe with really hi-dollar rod? Or with a really slow-action - otherwise the ferule will be placed in a section that isn't going to flex hardly at all anyway. If it's a 5' ultralite it should be 1-pc. for sure.

Just my experience...
