My 1984 Lowe 17.5' alum.bass boat is rated for 75HP. I bought it in 1986 and it had a new 1986 75HP Mariner on it. After 25 very dependalbe years, I messed up and didn't notice the water pump. I found a beat up 1993 75HP Mercury and bolted it on. Ran good until some carb issues. While rebuilding them and not paying attention, my boat sank to the gunnels in just a minute. With periodic waves from boats and my 200+ lbs leaning over the back, the water came in slowly into the rear drain holes and then it happend so quick I could do nothing.
My question is. I had to work on my 4cly. Mariner in similar conditions but never any issues. Is the 1993 75 HP 3 cyl heavier than the 1986 4 cyl? My brother-in-law was following me and said the boat sits a lot lower in the rear now. I'm not sure.
Is this newer 75 too heavy for my boat? The oil injection is not hooked up. IF I removed it, is there any significant weight loss?
Thanks for any info,
Karl.
