No advantage at all performance wise (speed or miles per gallon) with the stock engine and manifolds, unless you're making over about 500 HP.

I find mine useful for scaring small children standing next to it on the dock if I crank it with them open ......

I think you fail to realize that with that choice exhaust, you too have an exhaust bellow.
And lets not forget the drive shaft bellow and shift cable boot and the water intake hose.
Generaly, when it is time to replace one...it's time to replace them all.

"Is their an advantage to having a through transom exhaust?"

Not to me, I looked at used Baja's when we recently traded boats but could only find one with through the prop exhaust. That boat had a seating arrangement the wife wouldn't accept (passenger seat was rear facing bench).

I like the sport boat styling but have no use for through the transom exhaust.

I don't think a torn exhaust belows will sink the boat anyway as they have holes already in them. The drive shaft belows is another story.

No real advantages with stock power, but a few disadvantages would be more holes to worry about leaking and you still have to keep the bellows in good repair.
