is the aq290 and dp-sm housings the same? Please help!

I got a Dp-sm 1.95 leg on my 5.0 volvo penta, the boat is a 1999 chris craft 26'. The problem is previous owner broke the housing when they tried to pry a siezed leg off where it connects to gimbal. I found a great deal localy to buy a housing without the lower unit however its a 290 dp older model with a 2.xx gear ratio. Will i be able to utilize the housing from a 290 to put on my dp-sm or they are different. I was gonna change over the internal from my leg but want to make sure it will bolt up and if there is any difference in two housing which would prevent me from using the older housing. Thank you, any help is appreciated. I know there is experts here that know alot more than i can even dream off. Chime in.

Nope, completely different parts, inside and out. Same design as in they work the same way, just different parts.

Don my source of reliable info. Is the dp-sm and dp-s same. Also would using a 2.30 gear ratio be ok on a 26 Chris craft that originally had 1.95 hooked up to a 5.0 gi. If not what would I need to do change the gearing from dp-sm to dp-s and if possible. Thank you.
