Is the 135 Optimax a good motor?

I am buying a new Trophy 2002 and wanted tood mo to know if the Optimax are good motors. Model year 2005.

Good if it has been taken care of. Do a compression check and loosen the drain plug on the L/U enough to check for water intrusion. Look for signs of overheating, i.e. paint peeling or discoloration.

the motor is an 02 or 05? Early 2000's Optimax's were notorious for blowing powerheads, they're known as Optipop's. I believe Merc resolved most of the issues by the 05 models. I have a buddy with twin Optimax 135's on his boat, he blew a powerhead about 40 miles south of the Keys last year, not a fun ride in.
