is that true 20 or 25 hp mercury from 70's will go faster than
omc 70's 20, 25 hp?? because mercury has cross flow on prop?

Sorry JB but do some research before you shoot the merc down. Some of the '70s mercs came stock with direct flux gate capacitor injection. All of the 70s OMCs used carburetors. That's why the Merc props cross flowed faster. This is clearly noted in the Clymer manual. :facepalm:

This can probably only be settled with a race. Considering that it sounds like you have the OMC, you'll probably need to bust out one serious 80s maintenance montage if you're going to have a chance against that merc.

Rumor has it---yes rumor,--- that, that before it was highly regulated , engine companies [not just boat motors, but all] would intentionally underrate the stated HP of thier engines. They may know thier engine puts out 30 HP, but would call it a 25 HP.
That way their, 25 HP [cough, cough] engines, would out perform the competitions 25 HP engine.
