I have a 96 40 hp force/merc built, when operating atslow speeds works fine, but when i give it more throttle it revs up but does not speed up! I installed brand new prop from dealer, it didnt cure my problem. feeels like it is slipping like a auto trans does in a car. any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated! thanks Raody! :D

Re: is my motor slipping?

Trim adjustment or leg depth can cause this. Be sure the cavitation plate is "even" or "close to" the bottom of the hull....

Re: is my motor slipping?

I had a prop cut loose on me only at high rpm on a v-8. If I put some gloves on and had it in gear I could turn the prop and see the hub slipping as the nut stayed put.

Re: is my motor slipping?

raody, I was reading my outboard manual, and the only thing I can think of is that you have some water in the lower-unit where your gears are. I would drain a little out and see. I don't know how your model of outboard looks, but on mine if I remove the drain screw and was told (from the shop manual) that if water comes out first, or the gear oil is "milky" then you should completely drain the lower unit and refill with the proper gear oil for you lower unit. Then check it again after 10 hours of use, and if there is water in there again, have the seals replaced. Hope this helps
