Re: is it worth repairing?

They seems to be available at Marine Engine at a total price (forward w/bearings and clutch dog) at a total of close to 400.
Use the BRP parts catalog (evinrude.com) and search direct on the part numbers.

Im from downunder too, i have found the most cost effective parts resource for me to be boats.net, shipping ends up being quite reasonable as well. If you time your orders right re exchange rate it ends up being way cheaper than buying here, now is real good time. I have made several orders from them now and never had one not turn up, they only sell genuine parts as well. Google boats.net and check em out.

Re: is it worth repairing?

Looks to be same prices as Marine Engine.
Marine Engine however do not ship outside US.
Except for the E-tech parts which are not available as 'aftermarket', even the 'original' are mainly re-packed aftermarket today and mainly distributed through Sierra which again is a sub-division of Teleflex marine.

Yes, I would say it's worth repairing for sure. If you can find a good salvage yard (at the top of this page) you can get the parts you need (except for the seals) for half the cost of new parts. Heck I do that all the time with older motors.

Re: is it worth repairing?

im just down the road from you what a little world :) im in western sydney

thanks for the help guys and the links that forward gear on ebay is going to save a lot of money now to find a clutch dog i just searched ebay without any success i found the seals kit on ebay rather cheap at $30 delivered which is a bargain considering it will be triple the price over here from a local shop i may just buy this motor i will pull the lower unit apart for pictures soon and post them up i have already had the lower unit a part and i had turned the clutch dog around so it slipped in reverse and work in forward gear we took the boat out some months ago and it did work however as mentioned it failed today so i think the best option is to just replace the faulty parts and can someone tell me with the seals kit does this come with the lower pin bolt seal?

Your welcome, just remember with the ebay link i posted that the gears are used, it does say in the description that they are all in very good condition though and only around 10 bucks to ship here. I did a little more digging through his store and found that he has quite a bit of stuff, just maybe he has some other parts to suit yours.

Re: is it worth repairing?

i cant tell the difference between parts B and C

B has counter clockwise cut and C has clockwise cut teeth, im assuming that translates to the prop shaft rotation as well but i could be wrong, somebody else here may be able to confirm. If not, you will probably need to pull it apart first to determine what you have in there just to be safe before you order.

Provided the casing is serviceable and you are careful replacing all seals i dont see any reason why it wouldnt be fine. If you have a manual it should include a guide on how to pressure test the LU when reassembled.

Re: is it worth repairing?

Looking at the picks they honestly does not look too bad.
When totally 'done' the edges are normally rounded.
It looks more like the clutch dog is not properly engaging but just riding on top.
I would have checked out linkage for play, (worn out craddle?) and just cleaned out the dog and wheel.

Re: is it worth repairing?

Do you have a pick of the forward bushing?
I see next to no wear that indicates a change on those parts.
Double check clutch dog travel and engagement.

Re: is it worth repairing?

i just put the gear and clutch back in to the lower unit than put the engine in to neutral and replaced the lower unit cover than i looked through the hole on the side of the lower unit where the pivot pin screws in to the lower unit and centers the shift lever and the lever was off center the shift lever was moved back so im assuming this would cause the cradle to not fully engage forward gear am i correct? i have had the complete lower unit off and found it difficult to push the long shift rod into the connection at mid way up the engine looking through the little port hole with the little clamp with two screws that clamp the two shift rods together
