Is it worth it to fix? Old 100 hp Merc

I have a 1963 Merc 100 hp "tower of power", with no compression in the top cylinder. I know nothing else about the engine other than it ran last year(probably not too well!); no idea of the lower unit, etc.

I would appreciate any thoughts and insight on whether it's worth it to bother fixing the bad cylinder, and how to go about having it repaired in the Chicago area. I have worked on other boats before, but pulling this engine apart is probably out of my league right now.

Would I be better off junking the engine and buying a used one to mount on my old, recently acquired vintage '63 Aristo-Craft speedboat?

Thanks in advance!

The repairs would really depend on why the cylinder has no compression. Take the plug out and see if the piston is moving. if it is, squirt a small amount of oil in the cylinder and see if you get any change. a set of rings is worth it, a broken crank or connecting rod might not be.

What wingedwheel said. But Don't junk that motor. There are alot of parts that people would love to have. A good propshaft/ driveshaft, could be worth 100 bucks + apiece . not mention carbs etc. do some homework before you junk it

Thanks for the advice. The piston does move up and down, but no compression. I'll try spraying some oil in the cylinder and see if that makes a difference.
