I read your other post and just didn't know what to say. There will be others here who can express themselves better so I just kept silent.

Unless there is a life depending on you at work, it will still be there the next day.

Peace be with you and your friends during this.

Its not only right, but there is a need to be there. Loved ones need your support. Call in as early as possible and request (tell them your taking) a few days off, if thats what you feel you need to do.

In a word... yes, if I lost someone that close I would take as much time as I needed. You should as well. Even the most evil boss would understand.
God bless.

yes you should ,, i believe it takes more work to build a friend ship than a marriage ,,after all you never do to a friend what you do to your spouse,

some people just don't understand. you do what you feel in your heart, your boss will survive this and so will you. i think you should go and be with your life long friend. its not easy for anyone who looses a loved one, if your boss does not understand do you really want to work for someone that can be so cold. im sadden by this news and wish you the power to help her family thru what is the hardest time of there lives. remember there is a star in Heaven for you, for the the feelings you have. you must stay strong. God Bless you Braxton

Jobs come and go. I was in the same position as you (not as close but still a lifelong friend), ended up missing the funeral, and am still sorry about it.

We all have our own priorities in life.

A true, lifelong, friend is a treasure beyond description.

You must be there to say goodby. There is only one chance to do that. . . .forever.

If employer doesn't understand or agree, that is a relationship that has time to be repaired or terminated.

I would.........in a heartbeat, Serenity.

Everything else can wait. You would never forgive yourself if you didn't. You need closure for one, but you also need to grieve and be around others who shared a special bond with her. It's very important that you go.

You're boss will understand.

Actually it does not matter if your boss understands or not you have to do what it in your heart or you will be sorry the rest of your life.

Serenity,

I've been in your shoes, and I'm sorry you must go through it.

I lost my best friend 2-4-01, we will go have a toast for him saturday. Here's to you Steve!

You never get over it, but it does take time for the pain to become bearable. Take the time you need, if your boss can't understand, too bad.

Serenity, you know what you must do. So do it, and don't sweat it. If the boss doesn't like it, there are other jobs available. Being loyal to those in need is most important. Unless of course, there are lives depending on your job, then that is a different story.

Serenity, awful sorry about the loss of your friend. Words fail at moments like this.

If there was ever a time to say "take this job and shove it", I think this be the time.

Seriously, if your Boss shows any further disregard for the circumstance, I would overtly tell her/him that his attitude is way out of line. If he sincerely thinks that you were out of place to go pay your respects, then this is not a place for you to continue working.

You need to go. Not for your friend, she is already in a better place. You need to go for YOU, her husband, their daughter her parents...........and the rest of the people who like you loved her so deeply.
