If a story runs constantly on TV runs hour after hour, day after day, week after week and after every commercial "BREAKING NEWS" appears on the screen is it really that breaking?

I have noticed news networks seam to pick up a story and just keep on pounding on it until it becomes news. I am so sick of watching GMA with my wife and hearing about oscar pistorius, watching CNN and hearing about malaysia flight 370. Its news but im not sure about news every day for the past two months.

The built up drama must be working since you are still watching the same channel.

it's not news, it's propaganda. paid for by the people/corporations who want to control us.
i've never watched faux news, cnn is now off my list too. my goodness, in one hour ya get 20 mins. of alleged news and 40 mins. of ads. i've had it with them.
for tv i only get low level cable, 2-22, my choice for news is now limited to local or cspan1 or net. so far, i'm leaning towards cspan1 or net. at least they don't have ads for 2/3 of an hour.
anything that is profitable imho is suspect. someone has an agenda.

No, but the point is I like Ziggy and many others don't watch cable news anymore on most channels due to the way they present their shows.
There is more than one story to be told, and I prefer a variety.

LOL ... The Weather Channel sent Jim Cantori to Nashville for our first round of thunderstorms this year. Kinda' like sending Geraldo Rivera out to cover the opening of your can of green beans for dinner tonight.

News (on a LOT of fronts) is highly (perhaps "hyper") sensationalized. You can get a lot more mileage out of a crisis than you can out of an inconvenience. Much of it is as much entertainment as information - and it's getting harder to sort through the hype to find real information.

Its not really any different than when the local news channels put someone on a street corner or in a car with a dash cam to show road conditions during a snow storm. Its not the first time it has snowed in WI, and certainly wont be the last. They are always telling people to stay off the roads in those segments.....and yet all they have done is ad to the traffic out there, perhaps making it more dangerous for the people that HAVE to be.

The real problem is that these are 24/7 news channels that must have new and exciting content to fill the time and keep people tuned in. There is simply not that much new and exciting that would interest a nationwide audience. If they were limited in time (which I am not advocating), you would see a more focused approach to get the content in. At least that is my theory.

I also think this is true with lawmakers. The more time they have to legislate, the more time they have to mess with trying to run my life and take my money.

I refuse to lower myself to watch any TV news, except weather. The spins, lie's and bias is disgusting to me, I feel very insulted after watching them spin stories to their liking, as opposed to unbiased news reporting. Even NPR or PBS are bias, but they are the closest you will find to getting to the facts. The rest are just "if it bleeds, it leads", shock TV entertainment. I also find the news very depressing, my time is worth more to me than giving it to these folks. Sorry about being so direct, but News Media = lies, deceit!

Somewhere you obviously read or hear something you actually believe. And you would know the 'real' truth how ...

News as entertainment has taken over TV. You can even choose which bias you want, left or right. I have a hard time watching news anymore. It makes it hard to keep up with current events. If I hear a lot about a particular story, I do some internet research via Google and form my own opinions.

I cant tell you how many times I have quoted the news and then checked snoopes or other sites to get it verified. Then discover it's spun to appear much different then the real story. I find not watching the news to be much more factual than anything the media reports on. The real truth is out there, it's just not available to the general public anymore IMO.
Sorry I'm so jaded towards this group of entertainers and spin doctors, but they created this, I am merely protecting myself from their lie's and miss--information. My time is worth way more elsewhere.
