Is it ok to Idle and for how long?

So I am new to the IO world and was wondering....I like to travel sloooow most of the time.....no wake speed.....how long can you run at this speed?
Is there any chance you can damage something running slow?

Common sense tells me no but,,,,just want to make sure....I can see myself spending half a day just idling along.

Thanks info on boat is in sig...at least as much as I know so far

4 stroke motors can idle for extended periods of time with no ill effects.The outboards aren't so lucky.J

As long as you please. The Raw water pump MUST be in good shape to prevent overheats though.
