Im in the market for a used boat.
I was just wondering if it’s ok to ask the seller for a picture of the capacity plate for boat and trailer that way I can see for myself if they will work for me.
I need to make sure I can tow it so I need the model number that way I can look up the boat and the trailers weight.
Also would be nice to see the hp and capacity ratings of the boat.
Im looking as far as 8 hour drive away so I want to make sure the boat will actually work before I drive that far and find out it’s too heavy or something.

Not an issue, there is nothing on the plate that can be used to find out anything about the owner

If the boat is titled, might not be a bad idea to ask for a picture of that too. You want to make sure the title is in the owner's name. Problems can arise if it's a joint ownership and the partner's not available, wife's name is on it and they're in the middle of a divorce, corporate names, liens, etc. You don't want to drive 8 hours to find the paperwork isn't in order.

I have always looked up on the internet to find out specs on a boat. The manufacturer web site, boattest.com.... Not sure if I would trust a picture of a plate, it could be the boat beside him, lol.

My plate is for the next size up for my model of boat. Not sure if the panel was replaced which was from the other model, or, the wrong plate was put on a factory.... My plate is for a Crestliner 1750, my hull is a 1650.....

You can ask for anything and a picture of the capacity plate certainly is reasonable and innocuous. It seems like most people who are making any effort to sell a vehicle will post multiple pictures of it. An eight hour drive radius covers a lot of area, I would try to keep it closer to home and be sure to include time for an adequate sea trial before closing the deal.
