Is it a 283 or 307 ?

Boat is 1970 Penn Yan
Model TUE 17R / ser. W59674 / 210 hp

Casting number 3862194 which is a 283 block. Last made 1967

Engine code V030I3BB. I can't find the suffix listed anywhere, V indicates Flint plant which started production in 68, which matches the OMC model year.

Could this be a 283 block assembled with the shorter stroke 307 crank? In 68 - 70 ?

307 is not a 'shorter stroke crank.' I used to know some of the Chev combos back in the day. 302/ (Z28), 327, 350 are all 4" bore blocks. 302 is the old 265/283 stroke crank. 307/ 327 are a bit more stroke, 350 is longer stroke yet. A 307 is essentially a 283 bore block with 327 stroke crank

I had longer typed at first, but my kneepad Clymer book has 283 = 3.25 and 307 = 3.00

Agree, haven't been able to find a service manual for this yet. Closest I have is for 1973.

Any idea if it's a 307? Based on the model number?

BTW, 3.875" bore and 3" stroke is 283, 3.875" bore and 3.25" stroke is 307

move to a 4" bore and 3.25" stroke and you have 327

Still wondering what this is,
Model TUE 17R / 210 hp / 1968

New to me boat. Haven't tried to start it yet. My plan was to install one of 2 fully OMC dressed gen ll 350's I have. One may be a truck block with OMC 245 hp cam & heads. The other is a 165 hp truck engine. They both have all marine gaskets and accessories.

My interest in this 283/307? Is if I can easily get it running and is a healthy motor, I may prefer it for fuel economy.

Also I don't think either 350's will go over 200 hp. One's tired and the other's fresh but a dog.

Hope I can save it. Seems like a powerful mid size SBC.
