I have been posting on my merc 1400 (L6) that had a thumping noise in the powerhead. I have followed up on a suggestion from chris to pull the flywheel off and look at the upper ball bearings of the crankshaft. I have done that and it looks like they are intact, but they seem to rotate off- center. Is this a problem? Here is a video of it:

Also a mercury mechanic suggested early on that it could be a sheared crankshaft. It shears at an angle so it spins, but knocks around. The crankshaft seems to have a lot of play in it. Does this seem normal? Here is a video of it:

Any thoughts are GREATLY appreciated.
The sound the engine was making is in this video. I have been told it is hard to make out though.
