Is it common for 200-225 hp Honda 4-stroke outboard motors to have carbon buildup sufficient to lower the compression of individual cylinders? I.e., from 230 to 150 psi and is valve cleaning commonoly required after a couple of hundred hours of operation to restore the compression?

It's been suggested that it may just be a bit of stuck carbon. Is that possible, or is it more likely to be a serious problem?

It's possible, but not likely. The engine has to be fairly new so you probably should have your local dealer determine what is wrong rather than trying to do anything with it yourself.

There has to be a story behind this question. I would like to hear the story.
